Potty training

Chris and I found Maddie like this today. Do you think she is telling us she is ready to potty train?!?

Happy birthday, Daddy!

Happy birthday, daddy!  Today is Chris's 32nd birthday.  Unfortunately, he had to head back to work this morning, so there wasn't much of a celebration.  The girls and I decorated a little this afternoon,- M and L did the paint with water pictures- then we waited for Chris to get home.  We made some of his favorite foods (shrimp cocktail, buffalo chicken, and a great big chocolate chip cookie cake).  As I was icing the cookie, the girls were standing on chairs watching.  Maddie was telling me how yummy cake is, and Lena kept pointing and saying, "Two, three!"  It is so cool that they are starting to recognize their numbers.  She also had her finger up her nose most of the day...not as cool.  Why do kids do that?  Both of them have figured out their finger is the perfect size to fit right in there.  Yuck.  The girls were extra whiny this evening, so we waited to have dessert until after they went to sleep.  We just enjoyed a low key evening watching sports and relaxing.

Sunday after church

I just love these dresses.  They are the last of our baby shower gifts.  We have a family friend that gave the girls outfits from newborn through 2T.  You always receive so many newborn items, that you almost don't make it through them before the kid is too big.  I thought it was so clever, so I have started doing that when I buy gifts for moms-to-be, too (thanks for the idea, Linda!).  I remember Chris bringing them home from the shower in Michigan (remember he represented me at that one since I was on bed rest?).  I thought they looked huge, and I couldn't imagine my babies ever being big enough to fit in them...well, the time has come.  I guess they aren't really babies anymore, but now I have little ladies that wear the dresses :)

Rainy days

Chris was on vacation last week.  Of course we had beautiful weather until last Monday.  It rained until Thursday afternoon!  So, finally on Friday we took the girls to the zoo for about an hour.  Dad had not seen the new polar bears yet.  We followed it up with some ice cream on the way home.  "Icream, icream, yummy, yummy, tummy, tummy!" Maddie kept saying.  Although the weather didn't cooperate for part of the week, we enjoyed some outside time when the sun would peek through, and we got some things done around the house that we have been putting off.  Most of all, we just enjoyed some really nice family time together.

Mother's Day and Grandpa's Birthday

We had a great weekend up at Grandma and Grandpa Parmentar's house.  We just hung out, played, and visited both Saturday and Sunday.  The girls got so much attention while we were there, they were loving it! This was our first trip since M and L have been out of their cribs, so I was wondering how they would do.  Grandma had two twin beds set up in the guest room, and the girls crawled right in them and went to sleep the first night.  I was pleasantly surprised.  Saturday night before M and L went to bed, we had cake and ice cream and sang "Happy Birthday" for Grandpa's big day.  As soon as the girls spotted the cake, they were ready to eat.  So Grandma lit the candles while M and L sat on Grandpa's lap.  When the song ended Maddie yelled, "Again!", so we sang again.  Sunday morning we had a nice brunch .  M and L helped Grandma open her Mother's Day gift, and I tried to get some family photos.  We were just too far past nap time to get anything very good- Maddie was screaming, and Lena had her finger jammed up her nose and refused to take it out.  So we packed up the van, and we headed home.  Uncle Zach came to our house to hang out for one more day before leaving for D.C.  M and L call him Yack.  Every day it is getting closer to Zach.  In fact, I think Maddie might have it right now.

This week

These are lots of photos from the last couple days.  I gave the girls their first pedicure (a.k.a. paint as fast as you can before they notice and want to move, touch, etc.).  They were really pleased that their toes were "pink."  I love the one of Maddie- she has finally found her pockets.  That is a typical pouting look for her.  The next ones are from rocking out with dad (dancing before the marathon).  The last few are from our trip to the zoo with the Moorefields to see the new polar bears.  We saw two huge brown bears in a new exhibit as well.  Katy and I were in awe of how huge they were.  They were playing together right up against the glass!  As we are talking about how extraordinary it was that we witnessed that, we noticed none of the girls were even paying attention.  They were way more interested in their snacks!  That is the picture of M and L in the wagon with Maya standing next to them.  They are looking away from the bears.  We also took a ride on the train.  Jack and Adam sat all by themselves, and the girls said "choo-choo" the whole way around the track.  Thanks, Jack, for taking my picture with the girls!
